For the Alliance.
- Varian Wrynn's final words

Varian Wrynn, also known as "Lo'Gosh" the Ghost Wolf, was the King of Stormwind and leader of the Grand Alliance.

His life from the beginning was hard. The death of his father Llane weighed on him heavily, as did the death of his wife, Tiffin. Eventually he suffered from amnesia and became the gladiator known as Lo'Gosh, although did later return to his place on the throne.

After returning to the throne, Varian was very concerned for his son, Anduin Llane Wrynn. Especially once the young prince had discovered Pandaria and was, in some way, being hunted down by the Warchief of the Horde at the time, Garrosh Hellscream. Although, later he grew more calm around his son, knowing that soon he would have to take care of himself. Varian also made a peace between the Alliance and Horde just after the Siege of Orgrimmar, but warned the new Warchief, Vol'jin, that if the Horde ever broke that peace, the Alliance would end them once and for all.

Later, Varian lead the assault on the Broken Shore, and fought alongside the Horde Banshee Queen Sylvanas Windrunner. When Gul'dan summoned a massive amount of demons, Vol'jin was fatally wounded and the Horde was forced to retreat. Varian ordered the Alliance to retreat on an incoming gunship. However, Gul'dan summoned a fel reaver to attack the gunship and prevent it from escaping. Varian handed his letter to Genn and told him to deliver it to Anduin, before jumping from the gunship to destroy the fel reaver. As the gunship broke free and left, Varian found himself surrounded by demons. Varian slaughtered several demons, but after taking several blows was weakened. He was eventually stabbed through the back by two felguards and taunted by Gul'dan, who killed him by destroying his body with fel energy.

Varian's casket was laid in Stormwind Keep for the Alliance leaders to pay their respects, and his son Anduin was crowned the new High King of the Alliance and King of Stormwind. Varian's casket was later moved to Lion's Rest, which had recently been built over the ruins of the Park. Lion's Rest stood as a memorial to all the fallen soldiers of the Alliance, with Varian's casket at the edge of it, overlooking Stormwind Harbor.
